Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. In Ireland, there are approximately 58,000 cases annually, primarily affecting children under 10 years old, though people of any age can be infected.^1,2

• Around 1 in 250 cases require hospitalisation (2) due to complications such as bacterial skin infections, pneumonia, or neurological issues. (3)

  • A characteristic itchy rash with fluid-filled blisters that crust over in 1-2 weeks (3)

Varicella Vaccination with VARIVAX
